“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.” Psalm 127:3
Psalm 127 is just one of many reminders from the Bible of how precious children are in the sight of the Lord!
When I ponder the pure and utterly unconditional love of God, my mind often thinks of children. I am sure many of us can reflect on special and meaningful moments of love and care with the children that surround us in our lives. This may be with our own children, nieces or nephews, or maybe even a small moment with a child in a the Church or party. It is through these times we are able to be standing witnesses of God’s abundant glory and grace and love.
Sometimes, in the hustle of taking care of these kids that are supposed to be a gift to us, they can feel more like a heavy burden. Caring for kids can feel like draining work. If we don’t find a proper balance between care taking of our family and investing in our own self-care it can be easy to miss out on the daily joys of a childhood unfolding before your eyes. Thankfully, God’s word is a place we can keep going back which reminds us what in our lives matters most and that points to our children that are one of the most beautiful gifts we have in this life.
Recently, I realized in my own parenting that the magic of my own kids childhoods was no longer evident to me as I went through the period busily completing the tasks and thinking what is best for them and quickly jump into another task. We as parents were not able to find joy in parenting because our minds were continuously occupied by responsibilities, to-do lists, and worry. God has begun to ground us again in the life-giving truth that this time we have with our boys is a gift.
Their silly laughter should be contagious! We both as working parents can be productive but also we need to take a pause along the way to be present with our kids. We have found that when we flip our perspective as a parents to one filled with gratitude rather than frustration then we are able to live our days more joyfully.
Children Are “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made” in the Image of God and We Pass on a Heritage of Faith through Our Children.
Psalm 127 is just one of many reminders from the Bible of how precious children are in the sight of the Lord!
Be Blessed!
